I think that the skills review is a joke....

It dont accomplish any thing except the mood of the inst.

But if you have to do it take them up on going up to trainning and review with them this will help....

And always do a quick look....( HA HA )

I will never quick look a patient who is breathing!

Rationale:

If you are breathing, you have a pulse..... How many times have we heard that??

If you have a pulse, defibrilation will more than likely harm than help.

If you need electrical tx with a pulse, you must sync.

You cannot sync without the limb leads attatched

if you quicklook (3-4 seconds), place leads (5-10 secs), place paddles press sync and fire(4-6 secs) total....12-20 seconds

if you attatch leads (5-10 secs) place paddles sync and fire (4-6 sec) for a total of 9-16 secs, a savings of around 3-6 seconds...

You decide. Performing a quick look on a patient with a pulse is the SAME as drawing your weapon when you don't intend to shoot. YOU JUST DON'T DO IT.

I don't care what the department says, what demca says, common sense must prevail. I took the skills review several times, because of this. I was told, just go along with it man... BULLSHIT! You train how you do..... the right way...

I was amazingly passed when I stood there and told them all, that I will not compromise my principles, and jump through hoops just to please someone.

I explained my rationale, and then Cpt. Edwards said, call me monday, I'll let you know, on monday I was scheduled for the DEMCA Clinicals...

Defibrilators, are deadly, in the hands of careless people. If you are breathing you are not in v-fib, or pulseless v-tach. It really is that simple. If you are unconscious, and apneac, quicklook away brother.

Holy poop BAtMAN, I was only saying what the training staff is looking for, not what you would do on the streets....

Like I said it's a joke...

Oh I know it was a joke, but it's a sore spot with me, people need to stand up for their principles, that seems to be something our society lacks as of late...

All said and done, that was one of the issues that helped out with the settlement we got, because it wasn't only me that they did it to, I was just the squeakiest wheel.lol... So I feel better about it now, that I have received the settlement, been promoted, and my pay is actually correct now.... its a good life... :)

File a grievance, I gave em 3or4 paychecks, then filed a grievance, and the next check was at medic pay.

but yeah, I'm still waiting on the "out of class" pay.... we'll see if it takes two years....

MAGOOMEDIC

Can't you file a grievance for the back pay too....

I talked to payroll on friday and she said I would have it on the next pay........

But as they say the proof is in the pudding.....

If the contract that we are hoping for comes through, I think it will be about 20.76 an hour for starting medics wage....not too shabby!

Now lets see if everyone that says they are gonna leave do.....( 25 + years):clock:

dfdmedic498
05-04-2005, 06:39 PM
From my understanding, many of those with 25+ years are indeed going to retire and only have a matter of days or weeks before they go off to burn their time. After their time is burned, they are officially taken off of the books. I truely am optomistic our jobs will be saved.
