Pretty sure the answer to both of these questions is yes but I'll ask to be sure. Does the department pay for your medic class if you get your license while working through them and or do they have a medic class of their own you have to take.

Yeah, there is a certain amount of money that the city is supposed to reimburse you for acredited educational expenses. not sure what it is. But like I tell everyone else, if you have the chance to get into a class take it. The financial return is worth the few thousand dollar investment. In fact, I am pretty confident that within your first year as a medic, you make almost twice what you spent on the class back. (assuming you're not at full basic pay when you get promoted...).

lately I have seen mailings from HVA, and some others that charge about 3-4 thousand for the full medic program.... Schoolcraft college charges for something like 28 or 30 college credits for the full medic program, (at anywhere from 60-180 buck per credit depending of residence and age...) so its a down payment on a car, but in Detroit it will pay you back once you are promoted you will see a definite difference in your paycheck. I personally think its a damn good return on the investment. Good Luck!
