Hi Everyone

I was wondering if I could get some honest assessments of the hospitals in the Detroit area... why?

I'm looking at coming to Detroit for my 3rd and 4th year medical school rotations. Having been an EMT for 10 years, I realize that all of us have some pretty strong opinions of the hospitals we visit. I figure this message board might be a good place to get unbiased opinions (rather, more honest than program directors might be) on the hospitals. I know the opinions are biased towards the ER's, but that's not a problem.

What I'm especially interested in is how "good" the hospital is, do patients like it, are they taken care of properly, is the hospital maintained or not, how do you feel the students/residents are there (if the hospital has a crummy teaching program, please let me know!)?

Thanks everyone!

All the hospitals in detroit are overwhelmed with patients with bullshit compliants. Most are under staffed, and in need of repairs. Knowing all the problems with all the hospital in the area. My first choice would be detroit recieving hospital. After that maybe ford. I would run as fast as i could away from grace. Just my personal opinion. I know some asshole will jump all over my post to tell me I am an asshole and wrong.

Recieving, excellent teaching program, the patients are disgruntled, but I would go there any day for anything where my own, or my family's lives depended on a competant doctor.

Ford, good teaching program, most of their patients like it. I have trusted my daughter to their pediatric staff and have nothing but excellent experiences to report. I have also had a few procedures done by Ford doc's and have no complaints... Come to think of it, My doc, is a Ford doc. I would entrust any of my family and friends to them.

Grace, If I were in an MVA at Six and Schaefer, and was seriously injured I would sign off when EMS came, and drag my bloody ass to Recieving or Ford, clawing at the ground to get there, if need-be. All the while, knowing full well that I would likely expire prior to my triumphant arrival at either.

And what is wrong with ST. John's VERY nice er the doc's always take time to talk to the PATIENTS, well every time me or my family has been there.....

I would rank the local ER'S as :

1. DRH

2. St. Johns

3. Ford ( only cuz Dr. Patton is the director of trauma services)

4. I would not even take <name deleted by anthonyt> to grace

my .2
